ECO ADVOCACY
We welcome you to be part of The Planet Atlanta Movement. Our policy leaders should know about our ambitious agenda and that we are working together to coordinate a local and national approach to create The World’s Most Sustainable Cities.
At the heart of our values, we support the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, transforming the Global Goals into local action. We celebrate individuals, businesses, organizations, institutions that work towards achieving one or more of the 17 Global Goals in the Atlanta communities.
What are the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (also known as the Global Goals)?
Founded in 2015 by United Nations member states, the Global Goals are considered a blueprint for all nations, all governance, all businesses that are striving to build "peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future." It is an urgent call to action for a global partnership to end poverty and other inequities by implementing strategies that improve health and education, increase equity and accessibility, and inspire economic growth, while taking climate actions to restore our oceans and forests into healthy ecosystems again. At Planet Atlanta, we believe that these Global Goals are essential to making Atlanta communities a sustainable and thriving place for people to live in.

Planet Atlanta started out in the mid-1990s as a newspaper focused on international communities in the city who were not being covered by the mainstream media in a fair and representative way by a news corps that tended to “Cover Dixie like the Dew.” After reading one too many racially biased news articles, I decided to start my own newspaper to open up Atlanta's media to a broader range of voices. I think, when we published our first issue, in January of 1994, Planet Atlanta was the only metropolitan newspaper of its kind, covering international communities in the US at the time.
Now, I see so many people in Atlanta's many communities – those of us who were born and raised here and those who are new to the Southeast – who are not represented in the news I see on TV each night. Instead of reporting on the car wrecks and killings of the day, and other passing traumas, I would like to cover people from all walks of life in Atlanta - their art, their industry, their challenges, our history and our latest happenings, and how our government works – or sometimes doesn't work – and all of the great and interesting phenomena going on right here that we might like to know about.
Today - Planet Atlanta is all about everything happening here – and instead of being in a print format that could only reach 10,000 folks with an issue (assuming one reader per newspaper) – on the Internet we can reach anyone who cares about this city – those who live here, and those around the world.
And why still call it Planet Atlanta? Because I believe that anything and everything that happens here, in one way or another, will affect and influence everything and everyone in this whole world… In the universe even!
We hope you enjoy and follow along and even contribute to this latest revolution of Planet Atlanta, your local international news service.
Glad to have you in our orbit!
